Inspired by the hostile dialogue between Trump and Kim Jong-un during North Korea’s heavy stint of missile testing, ‘Fear for my Child’ is a disquieting piece of indietronica realising parental fears for the dangerous and vulnerable world children are and have been growing up in, both on home shores and abroad. Aptly, the song features guest appearances from a four-piece children’s choir (all under 10 at the time of recording) and teenage violinist Rebecca Cullen.
lyrics
We leave books lying around so you read more than me
And your looks, though beautiful, is not all there is to be
I keep calm outside, when I watch you walk away
When you fall, reassure, so you carry on with play
But I'm scared like never before
Terrified for treason and worried for it all
I fear for my child, fear for the children overseas
The future, the hands, aggressive powers that be
Across the sea
I keep you safe but I have to let you go
Into the world, into the flow, of everything you go
I keep calm outside so I'm strong, so you know
But I can't keep you safe from everything, I know
So I'm scared like never before
Terrified for treason and worried for it all
I fear for my child, fear for the children overseas
The future, the hands, aggressive powers that be
Across the sea
Peace for rubble
Tears for tears
Loss for struggle
Fear for fear
